NATIONAL PROVIDER FORUM
The Slovak annual Socio Forum took place on in Bratislava and gathered together more than 100 people related to the disability movement. The forum focused on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the sustainability of community-based services and analysed new legislative proposal supportive to community based services. Another matter of discussion was the long-term sustainability of social services providers - comparison of three countries (Slovakia, Czech Republic and Austria).

NATIONAL PROVIDER FORUM
From 18 to 19 September 2013, the 5th Slovak Service Providers’ Forum, held in Bratislava welcomed around 100 participants from across Slovakia. The delegates were from various sectors, representatives of ministries, municipalities, public and non-public providers. The highlight of the Forum was the panel discussion with persons with disabilities, who shared their perspectives and experiences in regard to topics such as independent and institutional living; employment; self-advocacy.
The two-day event was co-organised by EASPD, SOCIA – Social Reform Foundation and Independent Platform SocioFórum (member of EASPD). It was also supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO) Country Office in Slovakia and the municipality of Bratislava.
On the 18th, before the start of the Forum, SocioForum organised a field visit for the EASPD representatives- Mr Franz Wolfmayr (EASPD President) and Stefana Cankova (Project & Membership officer). The visit was to a typical ‘post-communist’ public residential social care institution for young and adults, which now has committed to make the transition to community-based services for its 66 clients. The meeting with the director of the centre DSS Okoč (www.dssokoc.sk) provided us with a very good perspective of the DI process in Slovakia. It demonstrated the importance of the cooperation between different actors, especially Umbrella organisations such as SocioForum, for the correct and successful transition from institutional to community-based living. The various stakeholders had the opportunity to discuss in depth both topics and agreed that it is crucial to continue this open dialogue.
The Forum focused on two topics:
- The EU influence on the Slovak legislation and the financial instruments for implementation of de-institutionalisation and legal capacity enjoyment for persons with disabilities in the context of the UN CRPD.
- Cooperation and networking between government, public and non-public institutions, municipalities, communities and client groups.
